About Peg Leonard

Peg Leonard "Painter Peg".

Painting has always been an item on my bucket list, I had art classes in high school and won several Scholastic awards on the local level. But after high school I did not pursue painting as I got on with life, marriage, children and career. I did the usual craft projects with my sons and the organizations I was a part of, but official “art” was not on the schedule. The desire to do canvas painting was always lingering in the background and I began saving photographs, calendars and all sorts of pictures I came across as subject matter. By the time I decided to pick up a brush again, it was 2011 and I was into retirement and living most of the year in The Villages, Florida. I felt oil painting fulfilled my desire to capture the world around me in all its glory, and was lucky to find an instructor that concentrated on oils. I have tried other mediums and keep coming back to oil painting. I feel fulfilled and happy when I have depicted a locale or subject to some level of satisfaction.

Oils allow me to show my “colorist” side. I love color and depicting it on canvas. Mixing my own colors is my passion. Oil painting allows the artist to do blending and shading to catch the nuances of nature that other mediums do not allow or make more difficult. A few of my renderings do have an acrylic background, but are finished in oils. Most of my paintings are a 16x20 size, however I actually do everything from 8x10 to 48x60. Please enjoy looking at my gallery, which is composed of florals, animals & birds, landscapes and seascapes. Recently I began painting butterflies in earnest, and I love gifting them to people who are ill, or as a memory of someone who has passed on. My latest renderings will also show a butterfly incorporated into my signature., as I feel butterflies symbolize hope for the future.

My oil paintings are like my children, and each week several different subjects needs my attention. I have goals set for future projects. I would like to paint a light house from each state that has lighthouses, and paint at least 50 varieties of flowers, not to mention all the butterflies and birds that abound in my locations. Then there are the landscapes and seascapes, which I have a plethora of pictures from our travels to use as a resource. Sunrises & sunsets are a special delight to depict. The Villages provides beautiful ones. I would like to expand into portraits next, so am starting with pets, dogs, cats, horses and the like, then on to real people next. I hope my paintings continue to improve and evolve with each new rendering.

Please take a look at my portfolio on my website and contact me with any questions you might have. I also do commissions and have done all sizes up to 48x60 in a variety of subjects, so contact me with your vision. I am ready to pick up my brush!

Sincerely yours,

Peg Leonard SIgnature.
